about

"Expat" the first single from the upcoming record, "Broken Rainbows," is an exhilarating slice of rock n’ roll commentary that recalls the Beatles “Back In The U.S.S.R.” and the MC5’s “American Ruse.” This is a rare moment of pure rocking for Moviola, and the song’s lyrics are viscerally direct. At times, these pointed passages exude a Ramones-like simplicity with lines such as: Because I wanna be an expat/Wanna ditch this place/Leave without a trace/Homegrown stupidity has won the race. “This song is about how ideas like paying your fair share, and helping out those with less opportunity in life seem to have vanished,” Jerry says. “While the USA isn’t alone in these problems, the song is a desire for a change of scenery; to go somewhere where rampant jingoism, gaslighting, and inequality doesn’t seem to be growing daily.
